Our Purpose

Our PurposeThe Sunset Park Alliance exists to reconnect out-of-school youth back to the classroom and workforce. In collaboration with its six partner agencies (Brooklyn Workforce Innovations-Fifth Avenue Committee; Center for Family Life in Sunset Park; Lutheran Family Health Centers; Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow;  Turning Point; Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corp.), the Alliance ensures that its clients, out-of-school youth ages 16-24, receive the services they need to accomplish educational, professional and personal goals.

Through comprehensive case management services, the Alliance serves as a safety net for these youth. That is, a case manager works with the youth to establish an education plan (e.g. GED readiness program, GED class, college or training program) that meets his/her goals. Additionally, the case manager identifies obstacles in the young person’s life, such as drug abuse, and finds solutions to address them (e.g. counseling and treatment).

Another service includes workforce readiness. When ready, the case manager highlights job training opportunities as well as job openings.  The case manager remains connected to the youth throughout all stages of his/her journey to being reconnected and achieving educational and personal goals. The staff at the partner agencies play a critical role in sharing the case management responsibilities. Case managers from the Alliance and partner agencies work collaboratively to avoid duplication of services and ensure that each young adult has an advocate at the agency they were referred to.
